Riser Template

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Hey all,

Remember way back, when Hardbooter made that video about how to make riser plates to protect metal topsheet boards?

Some folks have requested that we put up some sort of template for them, so here it is: http://www.hardbooter.net/plate.pdf

Feel free to download, copy, sell, whatever else you would like to do with it.

The original post containing the “how-to” video is here: http://hardbooter.net/blog/?p=147

Enjoy….

Vist Plate Setup and Review

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

In this video, Billy Bordy reviews advantages of the Vist Plate and goes through setup of the plate on an pre-inserted Sigi Grabner alpine snowboard. Hardbooter is the only reseller of the Vist Plate in the United States and therefore we feel a bit obligated to give the skinny on the product that makes an alpine snowboard perform like a Ferrari but ride like a Cadillac. The plate not only removes the rider for a significant amount of feedback that a snowboard gives but also places the binding interface above the board for increased torque and gives the ability to lower binding angles… for more torque!!

SES Wednesday Update

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Hey all,

We Rode at Aspen Highlands today with some reletively good light.  It’s been socked in this week so it was a relief to see patches of blue the grooming at Highlands was stellar and Billy and I were happy as always to make some turns with friends.  I utilized my UPZ conversion kit to ski boots and shot some video.  It’s much easier to shoot follow cam on skis than a board even though I’m a newbie skier.  I made 4 camera runs and then threw the Camera in the bag and went out to work on my skiing skills.  Frank Dietzel from Virus was nice enough to lend me some custom skis out of his camp.  They were long and hooked up nicely in the groom but I’ll have to work out the bugs in the crud.

Wednesday has been the Hardbooter Kegger at the Highlands at ZG grill. We had a great time mingleing with our Carving friends and actually killed a keg of Doggie Style Pale Ale from Flying dog brewery.  Thanks everyone for attending!  We look forward to having another next year.

The evening continued with a brillient meal from Kevin and Terese consisting of part of their Salmon catch from Alaska. There was cream cheese wrapped with Salmon Lox as well as some marinated Salmon on the grill, skins on. Wow!! What a meal!

The United States Deaf Olympic Snowboard Team helped us close the night with some well earned R&R. There was plenty of Foosball and Bill Loftis and I cleaned up in 6 or so games of pool. No really…. we were undefeated.

Peace!!

Summit Expression Session Monday Wrap-up.

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Billy and I finally got a good night’s rest and woke up relatively fresh this morning despite the early alarm. The Bomber house was a buzz for the early first tracks at Ajax. Fin and Michelle arrange an 0800 Gondola ride to the top at the mountain for a guided first line top to bottom. Brilliant!! The energy builds at the base as everyone is anxious to make turns together. I was on an F2 Speedster RS 196. It’s a classic ride and one of my favorite sticks of all time. Billy followed suit on the Silly Good Prior 200 and Will was on my new love, the Berube metal 183. I got my first glimpse of the Deaf Olympic hopefuls under Will and become more and more inspired to learn sign language.

I shared the Gondola with 4 Italians and was entertained by their chats in yet another language I know virtually nothing about. The ride takes a little more than 10 minutes and takes you 3000 vertical feet to the top of the mountain. I was on one of the last Gondolas and stepped out into a crowd of around 60 alpine riders with miles and miles of smiles. You could cut the energy amongst the crowd with a knife just before the drop in. This is one of the pinnacles of alpine riding in my opinion, something I’ll tell my grandchildren about, easily a lifetime memory. I rode the gondola for another top to bottom and really pointed the 96 this time. 60 miles an hour with you hair on fire is a great experience. If you ever get the chance to get on a Super G shape, don’t turn it down.

Billy and I then headed to Buttermilk for the rest of the day. I took one more run on the F2 and then turned it in for the Virus 186 GS ASYM!! I rode the suspension plated version of the board on Sunday and was pleased with the performance. It took a little bit to nail the positioning needed to ride an asymetrical stick but by today, I had figured it out. Super upright and almost back-seat on the heelside and forward with an outstretched torso on the toe. I took 12+ runs on this board and couldn’t release the edge when properly positioned.

At one o’clock, Billy, Will Joel and I set up a course on an easy pitch for a race clinic that Billy put on. We had about a 25 person turnout and fun was had by all. I maintained the banners for a nice clean look for the racers and Billy instructed and gave out pointers. We wrapped it up just shy of 3 and carried the gear from top to bottom with much effort. Thanks to Dr. Scott and crew for helping with the breakdown. All in all, I rode for almost 8 hours straight but with no complaints. I’ll check in tomorrow. It’s an official no ride day with the option to make turns. I’ll opt out and take care of some email!!

This is some really good footage of Jasey Jay Anderson ripping a slalom course in real time AND slow motion. Skate tells me that we’ll be able to lurp any and all Video of Alpine Snowboard related videos onto HB.net. It will be a great repository and consolidation for footage of what we love to do. STAY Tuned and congrats to AFC north Super Bowl Champs, the Pittsburg Steelers.

Some quick notes about Friday’s conditions at Park Cit Mountain Resort. Spectacular day with near perfect grooming and blue bird skies. The conditions should hold as we have a high pressure system in place for the time being. I rode the Phil Berube Prior Metal shape with UPZ RC-10 Virus edition boots and F2 binders size L. Had a front angle of 47 degrees and 44 in the rear which proved a little to low as I booted out on heelside back foot on around 35 degree pitch. ( Sitka ) I’ll dial them up a bit and give it another go. This is the least angle I’ve ever carried and I just wanted to see what I could get away with the the relatively small footprint of the UPZ boot. Get to Park City now!! The conditions are great with minimal crowds!!

Had a great day as always at Park City Mountain Resort. It was a Monday and crowd were at there minimum as they are in Utah during the week. The grooming was splendid overall and the snow was fast from a Sunday thaw and overnight freeze on the mountain. Conditions were firm with no clouds in site. The valley was socked in with some inversion but I easily escaped the crud immediately upon entering Parley’s Canyon. In the following video, I briefly report on the conditions and present my second installment of the UPZ boot review.

UPZ RC 10 Alpine Snowboard Boot Review Part 1

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

The first installment of the UPZ video review is finished. These boots are truly amazing but there isn’t much data around on them. As I take them throug the trials, I’ll document, mostly through video I believe, my findings.

-Cheers to Gear!!
